DeVry University
Continuing Education for Project Management Professionals
By Bill Coit, M.A, Dean, DeVry University Indianapolis

Bill Coit, a resident of Fishers, has been the dean of DeVry University's Indianapolis location since 2005. He previously held assistant professor positions at Oakland City University, Northwest Missouri State University and Chapman College. Coit also served as a senior staff officer in the U.S. Army. He is a member of the Project Management Institute, Central Indiana Chapter, the Society of Human Resource Managers, the Human Resources Association of Central Indiana, and APICS-the Association for Operations Management.
Project management is currently a hot field in the Indianapolis area. With more and more individuals pursuing careers in project management, current practitioners need to ensure their skills are up-to-date. The best way to get a leg up on the competition is to pursue a master's degree in project management.

At DeVry University's Keller Graduate School of Management, project management programs are based on students' career goals and demanding personal lives. Educational offerings are about balance, progression, flexibility and individual achievement. It's called the right RM mix and it's just part of what makes the Keller Graduate School advanced learning experience one of the best in the industry.

"A master's degree in project management not only expands the individual's skills and knowledge of the project management field, but also expands their understanding of the workings of the organization itself," advises Terry Holley, a professor at Keller Graduate School of Management and self-employed project management consultant, who has more than 20 years experience in project management and business. "While not all companies require project managers to have a master's degree, the overall business knowledge that comes with this extra study gives master's degree holders added credibility with management and clients that many bachelor's degree recipients do not have."

Keller Graduate School of Management is an ideal choice for a student pursuing success in the lucrative field of project management. Keller Graduate School is uniquely committed to ensuring that its faculty is comprised of real-world leaders in the project management field who take a personal interest in students' education. Its teaching methods are practitioner-based, which helps students put the skills taught in the classroom and online to immediate use in their jobs. Students study the key topics needed to succeed, including cost management, quality control, planning and improvement. They learn how to organize, implement and control business activities and how to achieve objectives in scheduling, budgeting and timely performance.

Recently, more companies have begun requiring their project managers to be certified Project Management Professionals (PMP) through the Project Management Institute. We members of PMI must obtain 60 professional development units every three years, as required by the organization, to keep our knowledge of and skills in our field of practice current. PMPs can obtain these professional development units in a variety of ways, whether in an academic setting or through self-learning.

As a PMI Registered Education Provider (REP), Keller Graduate School of Management is committed to enhancing the ongoing professional development of PMI members, PMI-certified project management professionals and other project management stakeholders through appropriate learning activities. As a PMI REP, Keller Graduate School abides by PMI-established operational and educational criteria and is subject to random audits for quality assurance purposes, which help ensure the effectiveness of its curricula.

Additionally, Keller Graduate School's master's program in project management is in candidacy status to earn accreditation through the PMI Global Accreditation Center.

In response to the growing need for improved organizational performance, as well as employee retention and skills development, DeVry University, its Keller Graduate School of Management and Becker Professional Review have established the Keller Center for Corporate Learning (KCCL).

As leaders in practitioner-based education and training, KCCL offers a unique suite of solutions addressing companies' need for undergraduate degree-completion and advanced degree programs-programs that help spark growth and productivity through tailored educational approaches to today's pressing business challenges including:
